How long should my drawer slides be?
Start at the back of the box and measure to the front of the box without including the face of the drawer. Once you have the length, round the number down. For example, if the drawer is 20 ½ inches long you will need to purchase 20 inch drawer slides.
How much space do you need for drawer rails?
Most side-mount slides require 1/2” to 17/32” of clearance on each side of a drawer. That means each drawer should be 1” to 1-1/16” smaller than the opening to fit properly. Under-mount slides attach to the bottoms of drawer boxes and can’t be seen when the drawers are open.
Can drawer slides be longer than drawer?
You should always use the longest slide possible for your application, without exceeding the drawer depth into the cabinet. The Height of a Drawer Slide is usually only a limiting factor, in the sense that you can’t install a slide that is taller than your drawer or pull-out.
What are the easiest drawer slides to install?
Mounting location: Side mounted drawer slides are the most popular and easiest to install. Center mount and undermount are also options.
Where should drawer slides be positioned?
Hold the drawer level in front of the cabinet. Place the ends of the slides attached to the drawers into the tracks inside the cabinet. Pressing evenly on each side of the drawer, slide the drawer into place.
How much clearance do I need for full extension drawer slides?
The full extension, ball bearing slide will be relatively easy to mount and will require a standard 1/2″ ± 1/16″ clearance between the drawer box and each side of the drawer opening.
What is standard kitchen drawer depth?
The standard depth is 12 inches, but you can find other sizes, from 15 to 36 inches.
What size drawer pulls for kitchen cabinets?
There is no right or wrong size to choose, but we do recommend choosing pulls that have at least a 3-3/4″ center to center (the distance between the screw holes). This size looks pleasing on most cabinets, while still being large enough to grip comfortably. 5″ pulls are also an excellent choice.

There are 6 types of Drawer slides:
- Ball Bearing Drawer Slides.
- Soft close Ball Bearing Drawer Slides.

Can you cut ball-bearing drawer slides?
Use a Hacksaw to Cut Drawer Slides to a Length Needed for a Project! I just whipped out the hacksaw and cut the drawer slides to the length I needed. The roller slides are inexpensive, and generally the home improvement stores only carry them in certain lengths – usually 14″ to 22″.
How much weight can a drawer slide hold?
Most drawer slides are rated at 75, 100, or 150 pounds. However, some ball-bearing slides can hold up to a 500-pound load. Knowing how heavy a load you need to support may help filter out your choices, and narrow down your choices to those that are most specific to your needs.
